Melbourne Victory!

A sunny Sunday afternoon in Melbourne...

We headed down to AAMI park for the Melbourne Victory vs Gold Coast United match...

MVFC went 2-0 up with 2 penalites (Kewell's first for the club), then had a man sent off. Gold Coast scored a penalty and then equalised. MVFC's Hernandez scored the winner just before the end to secure the 3-2 Victory and put MVFC 3rd.

Williamstown

Yesterday we went to Williamstown, a suburb west of Melbourne.

We went on a boat ride around Hobsons Bay.

The black swans make the most of the sun and the view of Melbourne on the edge of
Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park.

The Williamstown lighthouse build in 1852.

The WW2 warship, HMAS Casltlemaine permanently docked on Gem Pier.

Independence Day 2: South Yarra

Just in case everybody thinks it is always sunny in Australia!
Storms that followed a 30+degree weekend. News described it as "Melbourne is sweating".

A day at the races

First view of the 151st Emirates Melbourne Cup...

The obligatory souvenir pin...

The Johnny Walker Stakes race with a view across Flemington towards Melbourne.

Time for a pink champagne drinks break...

Race 7 - The Melbourne Cup. 3,200m. British Red Cadeaux leads as the horses approach the end...

But French horse Dunaden pips him at the end for the closest finish in Melbourne Cup history...

And a very happy winning jockey Christophe Lemaire.

Definitely 'the race that stops a nation'.

He lives somewhere out on the track, Mac, so take my koala back!

We went to Phillip Island yesterday and as you can see, we had our first 'encounter' with Koalas. Given they sleep up to 20 hours a day (even longer than Sarah!), we were lucky for this one to be awake.

He then decided to go for a walk...

 Mum and her baby...

The Koala Conversation Centre also had wallabies roaming around...

Then we went to the Penguin Parade. This is a mum and her chick who is only a day old.

We weren't allowed to take photos of the parade but here is what it's like...

Everybody needs good Neighbours...

I've been watching Neighbours on and off since I was about 9 and now I'm standing outside the Kennedy's house on Ramsey Street. Dream come true!!

Classic kangaroo road sign

Unfortunately we didn't actually see one!

We've been gone 3 weeks and the Queen missed us so much she came to visit!
